I Struggle With Forward Motion

So here I am, sitting in the library [doing absolutely nothing] waiting for 4:30 to roll around for band.

Friday night I went to the Warehouse and caught The Audition with Inept, This is Me Smiling, and Last House on State.

Last House on State is a local band, aptly named because they live on State Street [or maybe Street Road, which is literally 4 blocks down]. There were two dead giveaways that they were a local band [besides the fact that I already knew]:

1) The crowd was way too excited to see them based on their talent alone. But local bands don't need to be as good to be cheered for, thus, everyone's happier to see them.

2) Their parents were there. =) Awwww.

Seriously though, they weren't bad. Inept was pretty good. Apparantly they had van trouble or something, so they barely made it (the concert ended up starting about 45 minutes, actually.) While we were waiting outside, some drunk/stoned/seriously messed up guy was asking people waiting in line for booze or drugs. He chucked a wine bottle into the street and it shattered, and the guys from Inept went out and picked it all up. I felt really sorry for them, being held responsible for it, because chances are if they hadn't picked it up, they would have gotten the blame for it. The guy wasn't there when we left; I'm pretty sure someone called the cops on him.

This Is Me Smiling was fun, the lead singer's guitar strap came off during the last song once and he managed to keep going pretty well. It was still pretty amusing.

The Audition was pretty good too, definitely drawing the largest crowd I've ever seen at the Warehouse [which still isn't a lot, really] and I picked up their CD afterwards.

Quote of the weekend:
TicketGuy: [Since I had ordered tickets online] Okay, 3 tickets?
Me: Mmhmm, me and those two *pointing to Mary and Melissa*
TicketGuy: Woah, I'm jealous.

What Are You So Scared Of?

This is interesting. It's rare that you actually find some good points when you're going through random blogs.

Yesterday I got bored and went around Tomah and finally re-activated my debit card. You know how on those Visa commercials they promise that if your card is lost or stolen, they'll catch it? They really do.

Not that mine actually -was- stolen. It's just that I'm an idiot. See, I brought my debit card (and absolutely -no- cash) with me when I visited Illinois last weekend, figuring I could use that. Except that the only place that I could actually use it was an ATM machine, which needed a PIN. Which I'd forgotten. Naturally.

So when my debit card turns up 250 miles away, and someone's guessing at the password...some flags went up and the card was locked. It's cool to know that there is a feature like that, except that it meant going the entire weekend without any money.

Today I am going to purchase my Lifest tickets! It's six months away and that is too long. I sort of want to volunteer again, except that I also want to not miss any shows this year. So I think I'm going to just sort of show up when there aren't any bands I want to see and ask if anybody needs a merch-booth-runner. I know last year they always welcomed help so I'm hoping that'll happen again.

Oh, and going back to that first link, about that new Bin Laden tape. Dad and I decided that tape was sort of like when we used to play GoldenEye for the N64. He'd be like, "Okay, truce for a minute, I gotta reload." And I'd be like, "No. *headshot.*"

That's how you deal with terrorists. =)

The Simple Ways We Roll Our Eyes

Have you ever had a band sort of sneak in, under the radar, and you find yourself liking them when you don't remember ever making the decision to like them?

It's like that for me with The Reputation. They're a Chicago slow-rock-ish band that came to Knox once last year. I ended up with a copy of their CD and I never really listened to it because it didn't really impress me. But now, whenever WMP brings up a Reputation song randomly, I'm hooked. It's weird.

So anyway, I'm trying to figure out a new layout for this boring blog. Comment if you have any ideas. Because I've got none.
