Turn Your Car Down

The other night I was pulled over because my car, apparantly, was too loud for the guy's taste. He wastes five minutes of my time before he finally even gets out of the car. Then he walks -past- my door and inspects the dent in my quarter panel.

It's obvious this guy had his opinion of me all set up before even looking at me.

The conversation went something like this. Italics indicate my thoughts.

Cop: Sounds like you don't have a muffler on that.
Actually I do; it's that big pipe looking thing sticking out from under the bumper.
Me: What? No, I have a muffler. There's some gasket or something under the hood that's going bad.
Cop: Uh-huh. Can I see your license please?
Why, does it have anything even remotely related to my muffler on it?
Me: Yeah, sure. *Hands it to him*
**At this point, he walks to his car and runs it, taking his sweet time to do so. Meanwhile, I'm cursing quietly under my breath about how this guy's wasting ten minutes of my time because I can't afford to keep my car running nice and quietly. I mean, come on. Does my car seriously look like the type I want to -attract- attention to? Why would I waste money modding out something like that? Finally, he comes back and gives me my license--surprise surprise, my record's clean.**
Cop: Well, you should probably get that fixed.
And you should probably go catch a speeder.
Me: Yeah, I'm going to. Thanks.
Would you like to search my car while you're at it? Maybe it's loud because I keep crack under the hood.
Cop: Okay. Good night. (or something like that)
Me: Bye.
Asshole.

It annoys me when I hear people all paranoid about cops because for the most part, they're doing the job. If you're speeding and you get caught, you don't have a right to bitch about it. But I didn't do anything wrong. Except that I have a loud car. So sue me. When you accelerate, cars get louder. Not to mention the facat that I was -leaving- town at -8:00- so there's no way there could be any sort of noise violation.

Anyway, I didn't get a warning or anything. Just a "I-feel-stupid-now-so-you-should-leave-but-get-that-fixed" message.

I saw National Treasure today. I was actually surprised at how good it was. =) Go see it if you get bored. And the Incredibles. It's still in theatres.

Now I shall fume over the Packer game. >=( Waiting for the comeback.
