I Have Not Decided on a Title

Much like everything else in my life.

December Is For Cynics

It never fails--I get into a good posting rythym (see: 2 posts in one day) and then I pretty much forget that I have a blog. I'm always surprised that anyone even reads it anymore because after a certain amount of time, you'd think they'd just stop checking. But I should know that's not true--I still check Martin's blog and who knows when he's going to ever post again.

At least my last posts seemed to have a positive effect--I turned a couple people to Firefox and saved Sam from almost certain upgrading to IE7.

And it's funny, despite my practically monthly posting schedule, I still can't just delete the blog. It's a tough one--I have nothing to say but I want to have somewhere to say it.

I think I just need to be more impulsive and be willing to post even if it's just a little bit. There've been a bunch of times where I start up a post but then just close the window because I don't feel like it's enough to warrant posting.

The moral of this story is that I need to be writing more, be it blogging or otherwise. I'll be working a lot more this next month but I won't have class, and the absence of any kind of out-of-school obligations means also the absence of any legitimate excuses...not that they were all that legit to begin with. (That last sentence sucked to type because I broke my l key off. Typing words with l's in them is a pain in the ass.)

If anyone has a spare broken laptop they would like to break their l key off of, please contact me.

You may remember my browser crisis from a couple posts down. At first I was mostly just too lazy to change it, so I sucked it up and tolerated the change because it wasn't that bad. Tabbed browsing is neat enough (although those who use it as a selling point are far too excited about it) and it mostly worked, except when it would abruptly decide it couldn't view a page...AFTER the page had already loaded and I could clearly see it in front of me.

So I decided it was time to let go, to move on with my life. I downloaded Firefox, which Martin was happy to learn until I told him, "I don't likeFirefox, I just don't like it less than I don't like the new Internet Explorer."

My opinions, however, were based on old builds from the early days of Firefox when I tried it and thought it was a little awkward, too un-IE-like for the sake of being un-IE-like, and slow. They were also based off of other people's computers, where time and time again I would click the Firefox icon and hours later the browser would finally load. I sighed, downloaded it, and prepared to suck it up.

Except, here's the thing--now it's pretty danged good.

Am I going to become a missionary for Firefox as so many have? No, I'm not singing praises just yet. But in the hour or so I've had it I've found it pretty nice--that download manager window that always irritated me on other computers was fixed easily enough by an add-on. Another add-on brought back my Google toolbar, complete with a BlogThis button that was for some reason lacking in the IE version. And while I type this entry misspellings (or possible misspellings) are being pointed out Word-style.

Also; cleaned up the fifty or so extra icons on my desktop and it seems barren and empty now. Also, I slept through that computer alarm clock thing but I'm going to try it again and turn the volume up this time. And not go to bed so crazylate.

Quietness Of Mind

I should be asleep, but I'm not, which is sort of the story of my life. I've got a listening test tomorrow in Music Theory which I fully expect to bomb. At any rate, I've planned out my schedule for next semester, and here it is:

8:50-9:45 (MTWTF) Music Theory II
11:00-11:55 (MWF) Software Design II
12:05-1:00 (MTWTF) Calculus I
2:15-3:40 (TT) Lit and Human Experience: Short Contemporary Fiction
3:55-4:50 (Tues) Applied Television [I dropped it this semester, but I still wanted to take it later]
4:30-6:30 (MW) Symphonic Band

I still have an extra credit that I might use for a guitar ensemble, but I want to talk to the instructor to see what kind of experience he's looking for. I'm alright but probably not performing-in-a-group good enough yet.

I got the first (and only) season of Wonderfalls on DVD. It's a fantastic show and I definitely recommend it. The only problem with watching it all is that it's got me wishing it had lasted more than one season--technically only a handful of episodes, before it got cancelled by Fox--probably by the same brilliant execs who cancelled Firefly just a year before. The season at least didn't have a cliffhanger ending, but it's still got me wishing I knew what else would happen.

Also, Firefly fans who watch this will be surprised to see the actress that played Kaylee as Eric's ex-wife, who is very opposite Kaylee in that she is pure evil. It's strange to see.

Tonight/This morning I am testing an exciting new alarm clock program! I am looking forward to not waking up to SCREECH SCREECH BUZZ BEEP ETC because frankly that makes morning suck even more. If anyone is interested, the website offers a trial version, but I'm sure there is some way to extend that to its full potential. But you didn't hear it from me.

Christmas break is soon approaching and I am quite looking forward to it. I've been using school as an excuse not to do a bunch of things (like the blog layout which has been a project for a good year and a half by now) and I can't wait to come up with new excuses complete them.

Does anyone else use last.fm?
