Life is Passing Him By So Fast

And sometimes I think I'm the only one
That feels like going nowhere is like giving up,
Whoa, I'm not giving up...

Who'd have thought the answer I've spent the summer looking for would come form a Less Than Jake song?

(I get the feeling that there's no way I can make this entry not look like the 'ol cliche blog/livejournal entry with the lyrics 'n all. Blah.)

I've been torn all year wondering what I should choose. Stay here and go to UW, staying close with all the friends I've gotten so close to over all these years...or leaving everyone behind so that I can reach a little higher.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with La Crosse. I've been to the campus, and it's a really nice place. It's just that it's so close. I'd feel like I was just settling for it if I went there.

Lately, I've been looking a lot at Knox College. I don't know exactly what it is, but I'm really interested in this one. It's a smaller liberal arts college. It's private, meaning a huge tuition, but it's also ranked number one in financial aid, so I think I'd be alright. Plus, I actually got a call from this one after I asked for information, which was kind of interesting. But I keep putting too much faith in rankings and looking at all of the colleges that are rated "higher" than Knox that really offer about the same things.

But I keep neglecting the fact that there are also a lot "lower" than it. And regardless of position, every one is going to be a little different and going to one doesn't mean you'll come out any worse or any better than another. Even U.S. News, the one I happened to catch the list of, agreed on that note.

So I think I'm going to visit Knox this month. And maybe apply. I dunno for sure, and I'm going to try to find some other ones too, so I can get the applications sent out early enough that I don't have to know for sure which one I want.

As for what I'm going for, I still haven't got a clue.

Anyway. Enough thoughts of the future. Here's a bit about the future that's coming sooner than the future from before. My schedule is a bitch this year.

First Hour: Advanced Writing
Second Hour: Calculs
Third Hour: Spanish 2
Fourth Hour: Advanced Biology
Fifth Hour: Band
(Lunch)
Sixth Hour: Journalism
Seventh Hour: Study Hall
Eight Hour: Vocational English

Two classes that contain the word 'advanced' and one containing 'calculus' are enough to make me want to go back to fourth grade. I'm thinking this year, I might actually get stuck taking homework home.

Ah, well. I'll survive, one way or another. I always have.

It Began One Beautiful Monday Afternoon.

The sun was hidden under layers of layers of clouds and it was muggy. The sky teased the ground with the occasional tiny little raindrop. I woke up around three this wonderful afternoon and prepared to get ready to go hang out with Lauren 'n Dawn 'n John for quite possibly the last time ever (tear) and I was faced with a shocking sight.

In the night, I was visited by either a complete jackass, or the -dumbest- car thief ever. My passenger window was totally shattered, glass all over the interior of my car and a bunch on the ground by the door.

Had the neighbors still been sleeping at3:30, I'd have woken them up. Most unpleasantly.

The odd thing is, it's happened before, to the same window, in the same car, back when my dad owned it. =/

Anyway. We (well, the 'rentals--I made a point to stay with the people who could keep me distracted from my poor car) called up the police. Not that they'll probably ever find out who did it, but at least they helped out.

Scenario One: Some jackass decided to break my window. Fucker.

Scenario Two: It's possible that somehow it was accidentally broken. By a flying rock from the road or something. Possible, but very unlikely, because the glass looked like it was hit hard. Harder than a rock could manage on its own.

Scenario Three: Some jackass decided to try breaking into my car. They used a screwdriver to try and pry the window down, but ended up shattering completely. They panicked, and left.

Now, if Three is indeed what happened--it's the most likely one--here's why this person is the biggest moron around.

I don't lock my car. I can't lock my car. The locks jam on both doors, and it's almost impossible to unlock them from the outside with the key. So, dipshit here doesn't even bother TRYING to open the door. He (or she) just tries getting through the window. THEN they reach in and -lock- the door, thinking they're unlocking it. Yes, when I was looking at the glass, that door was locked. Nobody who lives here has locked that door since I got the car. So once the idiot locked himself out of the car (bear in mind that there is now a huge hole where the window was that he could just get in) he takes off. Leaving behind my car (if that's what he was after) and a $180 CD player that isn't even MOUNTED. One quick pull and that thing will pull right out. There's only electrical tape holding the wiring back =P He (or she, again =p) left everything INSIDE the car exactly as it was.

Had I not spent the night over at Martin's (after some bowling) there would be many things broken/ripped/torn/etc. in my house. Distractions are nice. =)

One day, sweet Toyota, I shall avenge your window. (I'm getting a new one Friday, tho'.)
