Back In The Day.
So, Susen [with an e!] posted a list of things (that I'm assuming came from some site somewhere) from the 80's and such. Fifteen is my favorite: "You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school."
Oh, man. That game was the best in fourth grade. It could be the most beautiful day outside, and we'd fight over who got to stay inside at recess at play Oregon Trail. And nobody could ever beat it, because she'd never let us save the games, because she was paranoid about using up all the disk space on her pathetic macintoshes. So we'd try to con other people out of -their- computer time, so we'd maybe have enough time to make it all the way to wherever it was we were going--Oregon, maybe?
And let's be honest. None of us cared about the education aspect of the game. We wanted to play the little hunting minigame. For as long as possible. Sure, we laughed when Nona fell into the river and came down with something and needed to have a leg amputated, and we had fun trying to float the wagons over said rivers (which could be why poor Nona fell out), but it was all about shooting stuff. The buffalos were easy targets, the rabbits were a challenge.
I'll always wonder what was waiting at the end of the trail for us. One person almost managed to make it, just once. But they were rushing, and they ran out of food. The died somewhere in Nevada, I think.
A few more gems from the list--
Yes, yes I -can- sing the entire rap from Fresh Prince of Belair. (When a couple of guys that were up to no good, started makin' trouble in my neighborhood...)
I did play that MASH game.
I did really want those light-up sneakers (and had some XD)
'Wax on, wax off' is a profound philosophy I will carry to my grave.
I have seen Michael Jackson before he switched sex and race.
The McDonalds playplace -was- the sight of at least one birthday party.
I remember when mullets were cool--and in a few of my really old pictures, I practically have one....
And yes. After reading that stupid list, "Shot through the heart" did get stuck in my head. (shot through the heart!! and you're too late...)
