Hello Again
I last posted in January. Nine months ago. I think after a certain amount of time, I started to think that it had been so long that I needed to come up with something good to post to justify so long without writing anything. I considered rebooting the blog, starting from scratch--but I made that mistake once before when I wiped out two years of posts. So instead I made everything private till I had time to go through and remove anything I didn't want to stay public. This time around, though, I just removed it from view. Everything's technically still there--no regrets this time around.
I finally finished. And reading back over all those old posts was quite interesting.
For starters, the bulk of the posts were from 2004-2006. 2007-2010 took up maybe 15% of the total. Which make sense. Then, I had a lot of friends online and blogging was part of how I kept in touch with them. Now, I've lot touch with a lot of them. Once Facebook hit, somehow I started using the internet mostly for talking with people I already knew offline...although that's a large topic for another time.
There are a few pretty steady themes throughout the whole archive. A lot of posts about not having anything to post, a lot of promises to finally create my own site layout. Lots of battles with procrastination and, up until meeting Melissa, lots of girl issues.
One of the few things that seemed to consistently get me to post was concerts. Sadly, I haven't been to one for quite a while. I also used to spend a lot of time looking for new music, and it's occurred to me that I pretty much listen to the same music I listened to when I started college. So that hasn't changed, I guess.
But other things have, and to be perfectly honest, it was somewhat validating going through all those old entries and seeing how I'd changed. There was a lot of indecision. I'd be lying if I said it's not something I still struggle with, but I've gotten better. And unlike all those I-promise-to-update-more posts, I've stopped saying I'm going to do things before I've actually started to do them. Mostly.
So the blog's back, minus a hundred or so posts. Life is good.
