What Will You Leave Behind Once You've Gone

So, the show last night was fun. =) The Warehouse is the smallest venue I've ever been to. We're used to going all the way down to Milwaukee for concerts. 1000 people minimum. There were maybe 50 people at this one. It was kind of nice, though, being guaranteed a good spot. =)

The first set was Theresa Lane, a one-man piano playing side project. He only played a few songs, but he was pretty good. The stuff on the site is all recorded live, so you can't hear it very well, but you get the idea.

Next up was Anchorage, somewhat of a screamo band. They weren't bad, but they weren't great. I at least have to give their bass player credit, because they're one of few bands where you can actually tell they -have- a bass player. Bass players never seem to get a cool part. They were sort of snobbish when we talked to them after the show so we left them alone.

Forever Tomorrow [they have a Purevolume site, but there's no music on it so I'm not going to link to it] was a local La Crosse band, and it looked like they were just out of high school or possibly still in high school. They had sort of an Atreyu sound at times. Their lead singer/screamer was this timid looking kid that you would have never guessed could yell like that. We talked with him outside for a while after their show, he was a pretty cool guy. He was bummed because his amp crapped out at the last song. We told him he should have airguitar'd it. =) They had free CDs with just one song it, so we grabbed one. It's surprisingly high quality considering it was all done in some kid's basement.

Stimulis was the fourth band on the list, and possibly the coolest. Before the show started, we talked to Dustin, the lead singer, for a good 20 minutes at their merch booth. They put on a pretty good show and we picked up their 4-song EP.

We missed The Big Screen. The plan was to go back inside to see them, but we ended up just hanging outside with two of the guys from Stimulis [dustin and one of the guitarists] and the guitarist from Day at the Fair. They were talking about how much they liked Wisconsin. Weirdos. =) We did end up talking to the singer for the Big Screen for a while. He's the brother of the lead singer from New Found Glory. [Musical family. =P] Nick asked if his brother knew that his last album blew. I think we made his night when he said that. =)

Day at the Fair was the last to play. Most of their stuff was from their new CD, which was good, 'cause that's the one I have. They put on a great show, but they didn't play Erasing Wilkes. Alas. We talked to them and Stimulis a bit after the show before we took off.

We also met this girl who's cousin is in a band that's touring with Flogging Molly. She said she might be able to hook us up with discount tickets. =D

As weird as it was seeing a band in such a small place, it's a lot of fun getting to hang out with them. Fun stuff.

Now if only I wasn't going to be in Osh Kosh for The Academy Is. [But I'll be at Lifest, so I'll still be fitting in plenty of concerting.]
